Reconnecting Families, Restoring Hope
At Konnect Transit, our mission is to bridge the distance and emotional void created by juvenile incarceration by providing accessible, compassionate, and reliable transit solutions. By reconnecting families, we believe we’re taking a significant step towards restoring hope and contributing to the well-being and rehabilitation of young individuals impacted by incarceration.
We envision a community where the adversities of incarceration don’t sever familial ties but instead present opportunities for rekindling relationships and fostering a sense of belonging. We strive to be a pillar of support, ensuring every family has the means to stay connected, share love, and build a better future together.
Research shows that individuals who receive regular in-person visits are less likely to become repeat offenders by as much as 25%. Rob realized this and formed a non-profit to make this possible by providing complimentary transportation for families in Metro Atlanta. In partnership with law enforcement and businesses, Konnect Transit’s 15-16 passenger vehicles will initially offer transportation services to the youth development centers in Mid-Georgia. Other findings:
- A study by the Minnesota Department of Corrections examined recidivism rates for 16,420 ex-prisoners over five years, comparing rates for those who received visits while incarcerated and those who didn’t. The study found that “Any visit reduced the risk of recidivism by 13 percent for felony reconvictions and 25 percent for technical violation revocations, reflecting that visitation generally had a greater impact on revocations.
- According to a Vera Institute of Justice report, maintaining family ties can significantly ease reentry and improve post-release outcomes.
